Ca’ Foscari University Venice, PhD in Management Call for Applications 2015-16

Ca’ Foscari University invites selected candidates to apply for the PhD Program in Management.

The PhD in Management of Ca’ Foscari University – Department of Management is an international program designed to train doctoral candidates in a broad area of advanced studies in management for careers in teaching and research in universities, in public and private research organizations, in financial and consulting institutions, and in private companies.

  • Major areas of faculty research currently include:
  • organizational economics;
  • innovation and entrepreneurship;
  • knowledge combination, organization theory and design;
  • human resources and competences;
  • accounting regulation, strategic management, cultural management, behavioural economics, business history, corporate finance.

The program provides opportunities for gaining research experience already in the first year with the summer project work and a research assistantship. At the end of the first year, students that have successfully completed the courses program are awarded by the MPhil in Management Studies. The programme is taught entirely in English.

Research areas are:

Credit and finance, Management and financial accounting, Organisation and human resource management, Innovation and entrepreneurship, Organizational economics and Game theory, Strategic management and competitive analysis, Marketing and international, management, Business history, Behavioural and experimental economics, Management of arts and culture, Sustainability management. Faculty has published articles in: Organization Science, Research Policy, Science, Industrial and Corporate Change, Technovation, Strategic Management Journal, Strategic Organization, Accounting, Organizations and Society

The PhD program is comprised of three years of full-time study. The first year is characterized by an advanced learning program of mandatory and elective courses on key topics in management studies provided to support students in developing their research question and project and to enrich their methodological skill. At the end of the first year, students that have successfully completed the courses program are awarded by the MPhil in Management Studies.

Second-year doctoral students choose a thesis advisor at the end of the first year among the PhD and Department faculty, start to develop their research project and plan international mobility (summer schools, conferences, research abroad). Usually, second year students leave for a period of research and study in a foreign institution. Third year students are entirely devoted to develop and complete their doctoral thesis, under the supervision of the advisor and to the participation in the activities organised by the department of Management. Participation in international workshops and conferences is recommended and financially supported.
